Ellie’s Run

dsc_5882.jpg

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I just signed up to run a 5k race. Which turns out to be something like 3.1 miles. Which is probably more than the grand total that I’ve run since high school. But I’m going to do it.

And I need your help.

The event is called Ellie’s Run. (CLICK HERE) All the money raised will go to providing school books, uniforms and shoes for kids in Africa. These items are required for them to be allowed to go to school at all, and the cost to meet those needs for one child is $25.

My goal is to raise $1000, or to put 40 kids in school next year. And I think we can do it. I ponied up the first $25 today, and would love to see you guys match it.

CLICK HERE to go to the donate page, and enter my name “Andrew Osenga” where it asks for Hero’s Name, and then put your own. I’ll keep a running tally on here and let you know where we are on our quest to put 40 kids in school.

And I’ll occasionally let you know how my “training” goes, since I’ll need to be get myself in shape for it, which is pathetic, since it’s not really that long, but hey…
First up, I need a pair of real, actual running shoes.

Thanks in advance for your support of me and Ellie’s Run. It’s going to be exciting.

Ellie’s Run total: $25

Cool deal. I ran in my first 5k about 18 months ago. I’m afraid I haven’t been a serious enough runner to really improve my time any… but I’ll be working on it. My next 5k is next month. My goal is to get down below 30 minutes… I’ve come close, but not quite.

But this is about you and your race, right? Good luck! I look forward to training updates. (Check out mapmyrun.com. They have some really good tools.)

and now for something completely different, here’s a little anecdote for you:

there is this funny little occurrence that happens every so often that makes me chuckle. i’ll be browsing my google reader with my itunes on shuffle. and as i start reading something from your blog, one of your songs will come on. right now it’s “new beginning.” what a good song. what a good blog.

makes for a good moment in my life :)

ooope, and it just switched. now we’ve got some jars of clay. guess i should go to their blog now :D

I just signed up for a 5k 2 days ago. It’s alot of fun, and 3.1 miles really isn’t that bad. This looks like a good event. I’m already overbudget this month thanks to a $400 car repair, but we’ll see where I stand come June -i’d love to support you.

  5. Josh Stockment says:

You should totally hit up Geof to sponser you…I hear he’s loaded.

  6. Geof F. Morris says:

You hear wrong, Josh. But I will sponsor Andrew, because he is my friend. You should, too.

  7. Geof F. Morris says:

Okay, I just donated. Your turn.

  8. DougB says:

    Done. Next….

  9. Tim Bourne says:

This is cool. I give some money and someone else has to the running! If I give a little more, does someone eat all my vegetables for me?

    Run, Andy. Run.

  10. DougB says:

I guess this answers the question “When Will I Run”…

  11. Michael Terry says:

    DougB:

    HA!
