Kung Fu

I’m writing to you today from a hotel room in New Milford, CT. It’s very snowy here, not quite like Gilmore Girls, but close. Too many of the guys on this tour like that show, but I digress.

We played the second of two Indiana shows last night. My parents came out and it was my Mom’s birthday, so that was fun. Gullahorn played “Roast Beef” for them, since they’d never heard it. What a friend.

Last night’s drive was terribly long, something like 14 or 15 hours, and our drivers were amazing and I’m so grateful for them. I’m also grateful that the extra time on the bus allowed me to discover two previously unknown (to me) films. Kung Fu Hustle was pretty cool. But it was nothing, and I say NOTHING, to the sheer wonderment of Gymkata, a movie about, obviously, the mixture of gymnastics and karate. Don’t trust me, take a look for yourself…

Again, you can thank Andy Gullahorn for that one.

Tonight I’m going to try my two songs in the round on electric, to see how it goes. Should be a fun little experiment.

Last Night’s Songs:
Swing Wide the Glimmering Gates
Hold the Light

    I’m speechless.

Andrew, do you want to be Luke Danes?

  3. Jen says:

Hey Andrew! You guys were awesome in Michigan City. It was definitely worth the trip. AP is supposed to tell you I said that, but who knows if he will. I’d heard Roast Beef before, but had no idea about the toe thing. It makes much more sense than my version about a guy on death row. I obviously didn’t listen to it very closely the first few times. :) Hopefully Andy G finds that more amusing than offensive. If not, don’t tell him. Thanks for the awesome night, I hope to see you guys again next year!

you had my hopes up, but they were dashed. shattered even. i saw new milford, ct and thought you were near me tonight. but then the tour dates say you’re in ohio. it may take me days, even weeks to recover from this disappointment. if i’m still depressed when christmas rolls around, i’m blaming you.

i’m kidding of course. still disappointed, but not quite depressed.

i like gilmore girls too. and i’m also a guy. grant lee phillips (the town troubador) is cool.

  7. Greg says:

You guys have to see the clip from Gymkata on youtube of the pommel horse fight scene. Unreal. Thanks for sharing this Andy… now i know what to get with that Amazon gift certificate I’ve been hanging onto.

I remember Cooley, Webb, and Eckberg discussing Gilmore girls backstage at Derek’s Montreat College show earlier this year [that memory is almost as vivid as remember us almost dying driving up that winding dirt road on the mountain that night] -is an apreciation of gilmore girls the “thing” that makes you cool in Nashville?

I think it’d be really cool for you to do your songs on electric. -You should do them electric in Charlotte on wednesday. -can’t wait for the show!

Gymkata…. Oh how the memories are flooding back to me. I remember watching that back in college. We also watched this show where a man with a sizeable gut would fight people with soup. I wish I could remember what that was. sigh Those were good times… good times my friend.

Looking forward to the Bham show tomorrow night. I can’t wait to see what you decide to play.

P.S. I think it would be fantastic if you could somehow work the phrase Purple Monkey Dishwasher into the show. Sure it’s ridiculous but fun to say. Have a good trip down here.

    Andy,
I was at the New Milford show, and loved it. I also liked your songs played with electric guitar. I’ll be in Nashville for the Ryman show, any restuarants, sights, guitar/music shops we should visit? Whats AP’s favorite Mexican place, can you ask him? I love mexican food.
    anyway until then. Later.

i have and love kung fu hustle. spectacular movie. quite funny.

this other sounds suspicious, but i’ll reserve judgement until i can get home and watch the clip (youtube is firewall blocked here…)

in the vein of silly martial arts movies, who here remembers (and loves. come on… admit it…) the last dragon.

    sho’nuff.

  12. Ron Davis says:

    Drew,

The AP Mexican restaurant of choice is La Hacienda on Bell Road. Take I-40 east of town to exit 219, turn right, and it’s there on the right.

    It’s quite good.

  13. Drew says:

    Thank You Ron
    God Bless
